Work can be one of the best or worst things about your day. It can drain your mental and physical energy or it can rejuvenate you with the accomplishment of making a difference. The trick is finding out if you are not right for your job before you spend years in it. So what are the early warning signs that you need to start looking for a new job?
This might seem really obvious but a large percentage of people don’t realise they have been passed over until they see that everyone who was hired in with them has left them behind. You might be up for promotion, but your less dedicated junior coworker might get it instead then it can be an early sign to get moving.
When you aren’t at work, then your work problems shouldn’t follow you home. When your work sneaks into your nightmares, it’s time to make a clean break.
Mergers, acquisitions, and buy outs are bad signs for most workers since it means the company now has double the people in the positions than they need.
If you feel like your boss has something against you, then that is enough to start searching the want ads. Either they really have something against you, or they don’t but you still feel animosity that causes you stress.
If there has been several rounds of layoffs, then the writing is on the wall. Stressing over whether or not you will be next is enough to make your work environment suboptimal.
If you have noticed that your coworkers have started to cut you out of social interactions, or that everyone gets quiet when you are around then you are better off finding a job with a more supportive team.
A fulfilling job challenges you and stretches your talents to expand you as a worker.
One of the jobs of a leader is to watch out for and support his subordinates. It’s time to escape a poisonous environment if you are being undermined or thrown under the bus by your supervisor.
You are going to spend a large percentage of your week at work and you have enough stress in your life. You don’t need to have work add to your plate.
It is absolutely time to fire up your resume if you are having nightmares about going to work. This means that your subconscious is screaming at you to find a new job…listen to it.
